Goa Football Association (GFA) president Dr Caitano Fernandes met Asian Football Confederation (AFC) president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa in Qatar and requested him to allot the AFC Beach Football Championship to Goa.
Fernandes spoke to 'The Goan' after the meeting and briefed about the conversation he had with the top boss. Speaking after the meeting, Fernandes thanked Al Khalifa for his words of encouragement and praised the role AFC plays in developing football across the State.
"(AFC support) is very essential, as they help to promote sport in Goa and India," Fernandes said. "So, that's how we have spoken with the AFC president, and I am honoured that he has given his stamp of approval. I'm happy and looking forward to the AFC and GFA working together to take Indian football and Goa to the international level in beach football.
"Mr Khalifa has been really supportive and encouraging, and I hope that we will go a long, long way." Fernandes also requested the AFC to allot a medical conference in Goa.
