CANACONA
Canacona U-17 scored its maiden victory over Chaudi Boys by 5-0 in the inaugural match of Agonda village panchayat taluka – Level football tournament, at SAG ground, Agonda.
The first goal of the tournament was scored by Glinson Dias. Dias along with Shan Pagi scored a brace each in the match, while Vaishabh Pagi added to the tally for Canacona Boys (5) as Chaudi Boys disappointed and drew a blank in the inaugural match of the tournament reviewed after two decades.
The tournament was earlier inaugurated by Agonda VP Sarpanch Preettal Fernandes in the presence of Ramnath Velip, Nilesh Pagi and Karuna Phaldessai amongst others at the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) Grounds, Agonda on the occasion of 75th Republic Day.
Fernandes informed, this football tournament was once played with great enthusiasm with teams participating from all parts of the taluka. "We have reviewed it after a gap of 20 years, and once again 8-teams drawn from all over Canacona taluka are competing for the coveted trophy and prizes. Besides trophies, the winners will take-away a purse of Rs 40,000 while the runners-up will get Rs.30,000 while first scorer, best goalkeeper and best disciplined team (Fair play trophy) will be awarded’
The tournament matches will be played for seven different days starting with Republic Day and the finals will be played on February 10. All the matches begin at 4 pm.
