Bab Bakery Juniors Raia emerged as the champions of the New Era Club inter-village U14 Trophy after beating Union of Villagers Chinchinim 6-5 on penalties in the final. The tournament was organised by New Era Club Benaulim at Xemu Moll ground, Benaulim.
The Chinchinim boys took the early initiative as Nigel Viegas scored in the 10th minute. That was the only goal scored in the first half.
After the break, the Raia boys sprung to life as Brennan and Kifern combined well to trouble the opposition defence. Raia scored the equaliser through Yelloy in the 35th minute. The match ended 1-1 to force a shootout which was won by the Bab Bakery Juniors.
At the prize presentation function, Fr Milagres Dias was felicitated by New Era Club for his contribution in supporting the local community and the sports activities in Benaulim. Fr Anthony Rodrigues was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners. The winners, Bab Bakery received a prize of Rs 18,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up won a prize of Rs 14,000 and a trophy.
