Former Curtorim Gymkhana president Vincent Fernandes passed away on Saturday.
Fernandes had tested positive for Covid-19 and was on ventilator support for a couple of days at ESI Hospital, Margao. He was serving as an executive committee member of Curtorim Gymkhana. The club has expressed shock and sadness at the untimely demise of one of its most prominent members.
“He served the club as the president and was one of the most active and regular participants in the development matters of football in the village,” the club said.
Fernandes is survived by his wife and two sons “ Savio, who is the sports secretary and also played for Curtorim Gymkhana in Goa Pro League and First Division League, and Lourde, who also donned the colours of the club.
Arnaldo Costa, the club's general secretary, expressed his condolences over Fernandes' demise. “I pray to the almighty to give enough strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss,” Costa said. Robert Fernandes, the former India defender, also condoled the death of the former president.
