Goa's iconic Pandit Nehru Stadium, Fatorda is all set to host the AFC Champion League Group E matches from April 14.
Home team FC Goa, Persepolis FC (Iran), Al-Rayyan (Qatar) and Al Wahda (UAE) will compete in the group. It will the first international tournament in India after football was halted in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Anil Kamat, Director of Competitions, All India Football Federation, said following this year's Indian Super League and I-League, the continental event will be the biggest competition India is hosting in a long time. To ensure the safety of everyone involved in the event, the players and officials will undergo strict bio-bubble protocols, regular testing and cohesive health and safety measures, Kamat said.
“We are pleased to provide safe facilities in order to host the Group E matches and look forward to welcoming the fancied clubs,” Kamat said.
Kamat added: “Being chosen to host the Group E matches reflects our strong collaboration with the Asian Football Confederation and the confidence the governing body has in Goa's organisational capabilities. We will provide the best facilities coupled with organisational experience and health care of the highest international standards to ensure the success of the tournament at all levels.”
