Govt. College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Khandola and Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, registered wins in the quarterfinals of the Goa University Inter Collegiate Cricket Women Championship 2024-25 on Day 6.
In the first match of the day, the Govt. College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Khandola, showcased a dominant performance, securing a convincing 39-run victory over P.G. Goa University. Khandola won the toss and elected to bat, posting a total of 97 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in their allotted 10 overs. The innings was anchored by a brilliant half-century from Simran Naik, who smashed 52 runs off 40 deliveries. Dhanashree Kundaikar managed to pick up 1 wicket for 16 runs for P.G. Goa University.
Chasing a challenging target, P.G. Goa University struggled to build momentum and could only manage 58 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 10 overs. Viyana Naik was the top scorer with 20 runs off 18 balls. Khandola's bowlers put up a disciplined effort, with Deevita Palkar taking 2 crucial wickets for 15 runs and Savi Gaude chipping in with 1 wicket for 11 runs. Simran Naik was deservedly named the player of the match for her stellar batting performance.
The second quarterfinal saw a much tighter contest between Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, and St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa. In the end, DM’s College, Assagao, emerged victorious by a narrow margin of 10 runs. Winning the toss, DM’s College elected to bat first and scored 84 runs for 3 wickets in their 10 overs. Pallav top-scored with 29 runs off 24 balls, while Tanaya Naik contributed 17 off 12, and Tanaya Mapsekar added 10 off 12. For St. Xavier’s College, Tanisha Murgud was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 22 runs, and Richa Gawade claimed 1 wicket for 10 runs.
St. Xavier’s College fought hard in their chase, but ultimately fell short, scoring 74 runs for 3 wickets in their 10 overs. Mrunmayee Bhike scored 18 off 18 balls, and Simran Narvekar made 15 off 18. DM’s College’s bowlers held their nerve, with Tanaya Mapsekar taking 1 wicket for 15 runs and Sanika Dhuri bowling an economical spell, picking up 1 wicket for just 9 runs. Tanaya Mapsekar of DM’s College was awarded the player of the match for her valuable contribution with both bat and ball.
