Navelim Sporting Club emerged as champions of the 41st Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup, defeating Curtorim Gymkhana 3-1 in an exciting final held at Padribhat football ground on Sunday.
Navelim took the lead with goals from Prestly Gomes, Nash Pereira, and Declan D'Costa. Mario Mascarenhas scored the lone goal for Curtorim Gymkhana. As champions, Navelim Sporting Club received a cash prize of Rs 60,000 along with a trophy, while the runners-up, Curtorim Gymkhana, were awarded Rs 40,000 and a trophy.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by chief guest Cruz Silva, MLA of the Velim constituency, who presented the awards in the presence of notable dignitaries, including Fr Damancio Carvalho, Parish Priest of St Joseph Church, Michelle Rebello, ZP member from Curtorim, Fr. Movin Menezes, Aladin Maniyar, Secretary of the Village Panchayat of Sao Jose de Areal, Andrew Ferrao, Executive Member of the Goa Football Association, and Fr Dominic, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Rosary Church, Davorlim.
