United Club of Nerul advance to semifinals

MARGAO

United Club of Nerul secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Betalbatim Sporting Club in a thrilling quarterfinal match of the Benaulim Panchayat Cup. The decisive game was played at the St. John the Baptist Panchayat ground in Benaulim.

The match was a true nail-biter, with both sides showcasing significant skill and determination from the whistle. Betalbatim had an early chance in the 2nd minute when Dickson unleashed a powerful shot, but Nerul's goalkeeper, Krupesh, made an impressive save, tipping it to the corner.

Despite relentless pressure from Betalbatim's Ronaldo Coello and former international player Clifford Miranda, who expertly fed their forwards, Nerul's defense, anchored by Stanley Dsilva and Melvin Lobo, remained resolute. The first half concluded goalless, with both teams creating multiple scoring opportunities.

In the second half, Betalbatim intensified their offensive efforts, but Krupesh continued to be the hero, making two more excellent saves to deny Dickson what appeared to be certain goals. As the match entered its final 20 minutes, Nerul began to dictate the pace, with Aniket Naik and Callum Fernandes controlling the midfield. However, Betalbatim's defense, marshaled by Alison Rogtao, held firm.

The breakthrough finally came in the 50th minute when substitute Anson Pereira scored the winning goal amidst a goal-mouth scramble. Despite a late surge from Betalbatim, Nerul's unyielding defense, once again led by Stanley Dsilva and Melvin Lobo, held strong to secure their spot in the semifinals.

United Club of Nerul will now prepare to face Guardian Angel SC in the semifinals of the Benaulim Panchayat Cup.
