Wilred Sports Club edged out Rossman Cruz, Nagoa 4“3 in a tense tie-breaker to book their place in the semifinals of the Varca Panchayat Cup, organised by Varca Sports Club at the Varca Ground on Tuesday.
The teams went into half-time goalless, with Wilred’s Anselm missing the best chance of the opening period when he fired wide. Despite both sides adopting an attacking approach after the break, neither could find the breakthrough, sending the match straight into penalties.
In the shootout, Wilred Leisure Sports Club, Curtorim converted through James Fernandes, Fredy Hilario, Aliston Fernandes and Ryan Fernandes. For Rossman Cruz Nagoa, Savio Fernandes, Maflon Vaz and Clifton Rebello found the mark.
Johnson Bagote of Wilred Leisure Sports Club was named Man of the Match.
Wilred Leisure Sports Club will now face Dando Boys of Benaulim in the second semifinal of the Varca Panchayat Cup on December 5.
