Cavelossim Veterans pulled off a dramatic upset, defeating tournament favourites Fatorda Veterans 6-4 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw in regulation time in the semifinal of the 23rd All Goa Veterans Football Tournament, organised by Flame of Unity Sports Club.
Fatordadominated early proceedings with slick passing between Anthony Pereira and Uday. But it was Cavelossim who struck first, as Mario dazzled with a solo run past two defenders to fire home a brilliant opener.
Stung into action, Fatorda piled on the pressure in the second half, but were repeatedly denied by Raju’s commanding defence and Anil’s outstanding goalkeeping. The equaliser came late, when Anthony Pereira's effort took a deflection and trickled into the net.
With the match heading into a penalty shootout, Cavelossim kept their composure, as Raju, Wilson, Thomas, Mario, and Francisco converted coolly. Fatorda could only respond through Anthony, Presley, and Rosario, falling short as Cavelossim booked a memorable place in the grand finale.
