Chandor Club move into quarterfinals

Chandor Club defeated Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 2-0 and moved into the quarterfinals of the Gold Silver Rolling Trophy at Rosary Ground, Navelim on Thursday.

Vitorino Fernandes of Chandor Club was the star of the match with his dribbling and shooting power while Roque Borges gave his best for Don Bosco. The rains didn't dampen the sporting spirit of nearly 500 spectators who watched the match.

Roque Borges of Fatorda should have netted in the 2nd minute but his shot hit the Chandor crossbar and went out of play. Then, Sunny Fernandes of Chandor after dribbling past a couple of Fatorda defenders, shot from close range but missed the target by whiskers in the 7th minute. In the 13th minute, Sunny Fernandes of Chandor scored the first goal.

In the second half, Vitorino Fernandes netted the second goal for Chandor in the 55th minute. The Man of the Match award was presented to Victorino Fernandes of Chandor Club at the hands of Andrew Ferraro, GFA Executive Member and football promoter of Cansaulim. 

Mormugao Utd thrash Curtorim Gymkhana 4-0 
Mormugao Utd blanked Curtorim Gymkhana 4-0 and moved into the quarterfinals of the 40th Sao Jose Areal Panchayat Cup organised by Sao Jose de Areal SC at Padribhat Sao Jose de Areal ground on Thursday.

Bevan Fernandes of Mormugao United was the star of the match with his hat-trick and gave many assists to his teammates while Joy Hilario gave his best to Curtorim Gymkhana. Joy Hilario of Curtorim missed chances to score in the 6th and 8th minutes.

It was Bevan Fernandes of Mormugao who netted a hat-trick by scoring in the 6th, 35th and 49th minutes. Ezma Gama of Mormugao too recorded his name on the scoresheet in the 15th minute. Bevan Fernandes of Mormugao United was presented the Man of the Match award at the hands of Jose Carvalho, GFDC coach.

GFA opens South Goa office at PJN Fatorda
Goa Football Association Dr Caitano Fernandes inaugurated the football body’s South Goa office at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Thursday. "It's really pleasing to see our endeavour taking shape in South Goa. The South Goa office being located here reflects our intention to develop football from the grassroots in this state. Development offices are an integral part of GFA as it builds the grassroots," said Dr Fernandes.

“It’s a very special day for us. We need to do justice with our endeavour. We plan to move ahead with GFA’s support and this day marks the beginning of a new chapter,” he maintained. Fr Leo Pereira blessed the office and a Hindu priest also performed a prayer. Among those present were Jonathan D’Souza, vice-president North Goa, Schubert Furtado, GFA treasurer, and executive members Anthony Leo Fernandes, Ravi Cabral, and Royla Fernandes.
