Former Dempo central defender Mahesh Lotlikar was cremated at the Pajifond crematorium in Margao on Wednesday morning, with hundreds of fans, supporters, and well-wishers gathering to pay their final respects.
The mortal remains of Lotlikar were brought in a special hearse van from Chinchinim to Pajifond, where his son, Neil Lotlikar, lit the funeral pyre. Neil, visibly emotional, was consoled by his sister Priyanka Lotlikar. He thanked the public for the overwhelming support shown to his father. Vedic rites were performed by a priest during the ceremony.
Several prominent figures from the football fraternity attended, including former India captain Camilo Goncalves, former India forward Stanley Colaco, Dempo head coach Samir Naik, Bruno Coutinho, Brahamand Shankhwalkar, Lector Mascarenhas, Mauricio Afonso and others.
