Margao-bred football coach Francisco Bruto da Costa will join the Egyptian national federation to assist Technical Director Nelo Vingada, the former NorthEast United and Kerala Blasters coach.

Francisco, who was working with Bangladesh Premier League club Sheikh Russel KC as an assistant cum fitness coach will now move to Egypt and join his mentor Vingada and work with the Egyptian Football Association. The Egypt national football team is currently being coached by Carlos Queiroz while Vingada was roped in as a Technical Director earlier this year.

Francisco was the head coach of SC East Bengal until he was replaced by Englishman Robbie Fowler and he parted ways with the club in November 2020. In December of the same year, he joined Sheikh Russel KC as assistant cum fitness coach.

Francisco has been following Vingada across several clubs, countries and continents assisting him at NorthEast United, the Malaysia national football team, Kerala Blasters and now the Egyptian Football Association.

Francisco started his professional coaching journey with Salgaocar FC U-18 team in 2001 and moved onto the Technical Director role in 2008 before leaving the charge for the India U-19 team assistant manager role in 2010. He has been with the youth groups of the India team since 2010 with U-19 and U-16 teams, until in 2016 when he joined Indian Super League side NorthEast United as the assistant manager under Vingada, the Portuguese manager who has coached several Portuguese teams, most notably Académica, Marítimo, Vitória de Guimarães, and Benfica. Vingada also managed the Portuguese national team as well as the U-20 and U-23 teams, before having many experiences outside of his country in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Malaysia, Iran, China, and South Korea.

Francisco followed Vingada to Malaysia as the assistant manager in 2017 before moving to Sheikh Russel KC of the Bangladesh Premier League. Francisco has spoken about his admiration for Vingada in the past.

“Working with Nelo was like a dream come true for me. First and foremost, he is a great human being with a great personality. God has blessed him with so much success. If you see his achievements, it is no mean feat. They are incredible. I was very fortunate to meet and work with such a person. Unfortunately, it did not work in NorthEast United. After that season, he had asked me to continue working with him as a part of his technical staff,” Fransisco had said in a 2020 interview with football website Goal.
