Geno FC rode on a strike from Sankhalap Amonkar to secure a narrow 1-0 victory over Dempo Sports Club, booking a place in the final of the Police Cup Football Tournament at Rosary Ground on Tuesday.
Both teams played attacking football and created several chances, but it was Geno FC’s aggressive approach that made the difference. The match-winning goal came in the 32nd minute when Sankhalap Pednekar headed in a flag kick delivered by midfielder Gaurang Kankonkar.
Chasing the game, Dempo pressed hard, but Geno’s defenders held firm to protect the slender lead. Geno also had a few opportunities to extend their advantage, but their forwards were unable to convert.
Deeshank Kunkalikar of Geno FC was named man of the match for his impressive performance in defense and midfield.
