Goa’s Abhinav Kumar Singh was selected and attended the Selection Trials of the Indian U18 Men National Basketball Team in April in preparation for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup–SABA Qualifiers 2026 at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, marking a notable achievement for Goa basketball.
Abhinav earned the India trials call-up following his impressive showing at the 75th Junior National Basketball Championship in Ludhiana last year, where he was among Goa’s standout players. Though he missed the final cut, the 17-year-old from Navy Children School, Dabolim, described the exposure as invaluable.
“The trials were highly competitive with challenging drills and matches among 40 players from across India. It was a great opportunity to understand where I need to improve, and competing alongside the country’s best has motivated me to work even harder,” said Abhinav. His coach Abhinav Wadekar said, “Abhinav has been exceptional at the State level. He needs to further develop physically for the national level, but he is young and has the potential to go far.”
