MARGAO: Margao Sports Club got the better of Carmona Sports Club 3-0 to move in the quarter finals of 30th Mandopa Cup organised by Mandopa Sports Club, at Mandopa, on Monday.
Margao made a counter attack when Clif Barreto gave a through pass to Edger Noronha who smartly placed the ball in the far corner of the net in the 24th minute.
Changing over, Carmona entered the field with renewed ideas and made a move with combination of Shanon Furtado, Dezwin Dias and Steno Fernandes but Margao defence foiled the attempt as Rocky Borges and Alfred Noronha were firm to deny any goal. As the match progressed, in the third quarter, Velton D'Souza's power-packed shot from the outside the box entered the net beating the defence and goalkeeper in the 34th minute for Margao SC.
Margao Sports Club increased their tally through Hanshlum Furtado in the 49th minute.
Alfred Noronha of Margao Sports Club was awarded man of the match by Damaciano Mascarenhas member of Mandopa SC.
