In a historic achievement for Orlim village and Benaulim constituency, the Orlim Village Panchayat is set to acquire a professional futsal ground.
Under CSR initiative Ayatana Hospitalities Private Limited, Orlim will shape history by becoming the first village panchayat in the constituency with a futsal ground. The foundation stone will be laid on December 5, at the Orlim Panchayat ground, Palcutta Ward, at 11 am to commemorate the memory of late Alvernaz and Lalita Alemao.
Speaking to the Goan Everyday Warren Alemao said that he has taken up initiative of constructing the futsal ground and his efforts have bore fruit. "We continued in our own way. Our intention was to create more futsal players in the Orlim and Benaulim," he said.
"With no proper infrastructure, futsal took time to grow in the state. But now, there are enough grounds and ample number of teams engaging in the fixtures," he added.
The football crazy state of Goa has been slowly warming up to futsal, an indoor version of the sport played on hard court. More than 15 futsal grounds have been developed in the state in a span of less than 10 years and promoters of the sport have termed it as nursery for football players and initiation into football.
