St. Rock YC Majorda advanced to the quarterfinals of the Cavelossim Panchayat Cup Football Tournament with a 2-0 victory over a determined Chandor Club at the Fr. Druston and Wellington ground in Cavelossim.
The match saw both teams attempt to use the offside trap to their advantage, but it was St. Rock Y.C. who capitalized on their opportunities. Chandor's Ashwell Peixote came close early, beating the offside trap and taking a stunning shot from outside the penalty box. However, his effort rattled the crossbar with Majorda goalkeeper Freddy Fernandes beaten.
Majorda had their own chances, but Dylan’s hasty shot, instead of passing to a better-placed Oscar, was wasted. However, in the 21st minute, Majorda took the lead. Bevan D'Mello quickly took a free kick just outside the box, passing it to Filbert Pereira, whose shot found the net as Chandor players were busy organizing their defensive wall, giving Majorda a 1-0 lead.
Chandor came out strong in the second half, pushing forward in search of an equalizer. However, shots from Sildon Peixote and Moises D'Sa were expertly saved by Freddy Fernandes. In the 55th minute, Chandor nearly equalized when Rivaldo Cardozo’s powerful volley from the left flank grazed the crossbar and went out of play.
As Chandor committed more players forward, Majorda capitalized on the exposed defense. Ashley Rodrigues played a through ball to Filbert Pereira, and as Chandor goalkeeper Oswin advanced, Filbert squared it to Bevan D'Mello, who calmly walked the ball into an open goal to seal the win at 2-0 and secure Majorda's place in the quarterfinals.
