St Sebastian YC, Murida registered a narrow 1-0 victory over hosts Cavelossim to book their place in the second semifinal of the Cavelossim Panchayat Cup 2026, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at Fr. Druston and Wellington Ground.
Cavelossim, despite dominating possession and controlling the midfield for large periods, failed to make their chances count. Blain and Deswin Dias were particularly wasteful infront of goal, missing key opportunities that could have changed the outcome.
The hosts came close early in the 10th minute when Darren Estibeiro delivered a fine cross from the right, but Blain’s header went narrowly wide. After the break, Cavelossim intensified their pressure, and in the 50th minute, Deswin Dias set up Blain Rodrigues with a clear through ball, but the striker failed to beat the Murida goalkeeper, squandering a golden chance.
Against the run of play, St Sebastian YC Murida struck the decisive blow. Veteran Alfred produced a long pass to Rocky Borges, who made no mistake with a well-timed header to find the back of the net, securing the only goal of the match.
Murida held firm in defence thereafter to seal a hard-fought win and advance into the semifinals.
Edison Dias of Murida was adjudged Man of the Match for his solid performance, with the award presented by chief guest Simon Pereira, Sarpanch of VP Orlim.
