The Young Sports Hockey Club, widely regarded as a key force behind the rise of Goan hockey, claimed the Olympic Day Junior Girls Hockey Tournament title with a commanding 4-1 win over Young Stars of Sattari in the final held at the Don Bosco Oratory artificial turf.
Prachi Yadav was the star of the final, netting a superb hat-trick to lead her team to victory. Abhigail added another goal for Young Sports, while Riya Talekholkar scored the consolation goal for Young Stars of Sattari.
For their triumph, Young Sports Hockey Club received a cash prize of ₹6,000, while the runners-up, Young Stars of Sattari, were awarded ₹4,000.
Agnelo Pereira, former Sarpanch of Majorda, and Charles D’Souza, senior sports journalist with Goan Everyday, were the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. They distributed the trophies and cash prizes to the winning and runner-up teams.
