ABC Arambol lift Yaari Cup

ABC, Arambol beat Candolim Sports Club 7-6 via sudden death to clinch the McDowell's No 1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Agasaim Youth Club at Agasaim ground, on Sunday.There was no score at full time.

ABC, Arambol enjoyed the better share of exchanges in the opening sessions and their forwards unleashed a barrage of attacks but Candolim Sports Club goalkeeper Krupesh Bandodkar was unbeatable under the bar as he denied three sure goals. First, Kevin D'Souza's rasping shot was blocked by Candolim goalkeeper Krupesh Bandodkar. Later, Bandodkar came to his side's rescue when he fisted away Jaison Fernandes' try. Candolim goalkeeper Bandodkar showed fine reflexes and anticipation to deny Jaison Fernandes after he sent a thumping header.

At the other hand, Candolim slowly took over the reins but their forwards messed up after reaching the rival danger zone. Sigmund Silveira and Bhaush Candolkar muffed gilt-edged chances.

Crossing over, both the teams adopted attacking brand of soccer and both had equal number of scoring chances. ABC, Arambol after a sedate start, went into attacking mode but their forwards misfired from hand shaking distance after reaching the rival danger zone.

Kevin who was in the thick of action nearly broke the deadlock but Candolim goalkeeper Krupesh Bandodkar thwarted rival striker Kevin D'Souza with fine anticipation.

With time running out, Candolim went all out and came close to scoring when Sigmund's snap shot missed the mark narrowly.

In the ensuing tiebreaker, Gladston Cardozo, Amit Fernandes, Vithal Kinalker,Stepetlon Fernandes, Edward Cardozo, Omkar Satardekar were on target forABC while Anthony Fernandes, Deundra Pednekar. Jolir Simon, Raystao Pereira, Suray Khaunthankar and Adrin Vaz found the mark for Candolim Sports Club. In the sudden death, Jaison Fernandes was successful for ABC, Arambol while Krupesh Bandodkar failed for Candolim Sports Club.

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of San Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh, Suraj Shrivastava, Deputy General Manager ,United Spirits Limited, Fr Victor Rodrigues, Assistant Parish Priest, Agasaim Church, Agasaim Sarpanch James Afonso, Teotonio Pereira, ex MLA, San Andre, Kshitij Shetye, State Customer Marketing Manager, United Spirits Limited and Artemio D'Silva, Area Sales Manager and Joesph Dias, Event Manager ,VJT Arts, Chinchinim. Earlier Armando Colaco welcomed the guests while Juliana Colaco proposed a vote of thanks. In all, 16 teams participated.
