Ambelim Sports Club registered a 2-1 win over Chandor Club to enter the quarter-finals of All Goa 7th Cuncolim Union Trophy inter-village football tournament organized by Cuncolim Union at Government School play ground, Cuncolim on Wednesday. Ambelim Sports Club led 1-0 at half time .
Ambelim Sports Club and Chandor Club displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. Ambelim’s breakthrough came in the 10th minute when striker Jade Colaco slotted past rival goalkeeper with a snap shot off a pass from
Irwin Soares.
Spurred by the early success, Ambelim Sports Club intensified their attacks and had number of scoring chances but their forwards frittered away from hand shaking distance.
At the other end, Chandor upped the ante and unleashed a barrage of attacks and troubled the rival defence with orchestrated raids. Chandor Club had scoring chances but their forwards misfired from close range.
Post resumption, Ambelim Sports Club continued to enjoy the better ball possession and doubled the lead in the 42nd minute when Jade Colaco beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish off Samson Fernandes.
Down by 0-2, Chandor Club regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp and their efforts bore fruit when Stanley Hadangali’s volley gave no chance to the rival goalkeeper off a cross from Sunny Fernandes.
The reducer boosted the morale of Chandor as they conjured a couple of scoring opportunities and thrice
were unlucky.
