Top seed Anaya Shukla and second seed Shaurya Dessai stormed into the Girls U11 finals on the opening day of the 5th Naguesh and Sushila Verenkar Memorial All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, being held at the Chandor Club Multipurpose Hall. Anaya defeated Claire George 3-0 in the semi-finals, while Shaurya downed Tvisha Kotkar 3-0 to set up their much-anticipated clash in the title match. Earlier in the quarter-finals, Claire edged past Aarna Walavalkar 3-2, Tvisha overcame Tasha Mascarenhas 3-1, and Shaurya dispatched Sanaz Shaikh 3-0. Anaya, the top seed, progressed via a bye.
In the Girls U13 round of 16, the action was equally intense with Sachi Dessai, Gianna George, Aayushi Amonkar, Kavyaa Khalap, Tisha Shaikh, Inara D’Souza, Aarna Lotlikar, and Evangeline Rodrigues advancing to the quarter-finals.
Earlier, the tournament, organised by Chandor Club, was inaugurated by renowned Margao doctor and table tennis player Dr. Brennon Tavares, in the presence of Sudin Verenkar, President of the Goa Table Tennis Association, Egidio Da Costa, President of Chandor Club, and Santosh Verenkar, Organising Secretary. Speaking at the inaugural, Dr. Brennon Tavares advising parents, said, “Sports is the best investment for lifelong health and fitness. I encourage every parent to ensure their child is introduced to sports early in life—it not only builds character but also fosters a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.”
