Awesome threesome!

The trio performances add humour to the tiatr and are much sought after by the audiences

Awesome threesome!

The success of a tiatr dependsnot only on an absorbing story and rib-tickling comedy, but also on the qualityof the songs which could be solos, duets, trios, quartets, quintets etc. Amongthese songs, there are a minimum of two songs sung by a trio to attract tiatrlovers. One song is generally about a current political subject and the other couldeither address a social or civic subject or it could be purely a comedy song.

The Konkani tiatr stage has seen many specialist trio singers over the last fewdecades who have entertained tiatr lovers and earned their love and admiration. These singers have a steady fan following. A comedy trio song ‘Soirik’ iscurrently the talk of the town and is sung by Bab Andrew-Francis de Tuem-JrNelson, in Rose Ferns’ latest tiatr ‘Voir Marlolo Fator’. In this song, thetrio narrates the story of an aged father and his two sons who have returnedfrom the United States. The two eligible bachelors display poster images oftheir fiancés and carry them around to convey their message across to theaudience.

The actions have direct relevance to the lyrics and this fetched thedesired effect. The trio evoked spontaneous laughter and hence received anencore. What is noteworthy is, the talented composer Francis de Tuem downloadedthe fancy graphic pictures from the internet and enlarged them to poster size.Based on these pictures, the composer has conceptualized his theme andexercised his creative cells to compose the humorous lyrics of the trio. It is heartwarmingto see tiatrists compose songs about new subjects and delight their fans. Andtiatr lovers feel they have gotten their money’s worth!

He expressed his surprise and said that because of those two indecent sentences in the song a few people in the auditorium whistled and the singer came back sang it again.
