Goa's shuttle queen Anura Prabhu Desai has climbed to the top of the singles and doubles charts of national senior player rankings
in badminton.
With ranking points of 2882, the Goan girl leads the latest women's singles rankings of the Badminton Association of India. She is also ranked No 1 in the women's doubles with 1804 ranking points. This is an unprecedented feat by a Goan badminton player and comes on the heels of consistent podium finishes by Anura over the last 12 months.
The Goan ace is naturally delighted to have reached her first goal of becoming the number 1 player in Indian ranking badminton circuit. She has now vowed to work harder than before to reach the ultimate goal of playing in the Olympics
"I am feeling really happy. It feels great to be the India No. 1 in singles, which was my first goal and it is a bonus for me that I am India No. 1 in doubles as well," Anura told The Goan.
"I know that there is very tough road ahead to achieve my goal -- that is to play in the Olympics. For that to happen, I am aware that I need to work harder than what I am doing at present,"
she added.
Anura will now spring to action at the senior nationals to be held in Nagpur from November 2 to 8.
