Bambino Dias won a double crown by winning the men’s doubles and mixed doubles event while Joel Afonso emerged champion in the men’s singles category at the inter-media badminton tournament organised by the Sports Journalists Association of Goa with the support from Goa Badminton Association and DBO at Don Bosco Oratory on Saturday.
The men’s singles final was an all ‘The Goan’ affair with former champion Joel Afonso getting the better of an in-form Manuel Nunes 11-2, 11-7.
All India Radio’s Bambino Dias and Nivesh Chauhan proved to be too good in the doubles category as they beat the Joel-Manuel duo 11-7, 11-5 in the final. Bambino then partnered Chandani Naik to clinch the mixed-doubles title. Nivesh and Velma Fernandes, also of All India Radio, finished runners-up.
Manuel Nunes-Heather Fernandes and Joel Andrade-Aliya Abreu of ‘The Goan’ performed well in the mixed doubles category.
The prize distribution ceremony will be held at a date to be announced later.
