CDJ Ribandar (Albert Developers) defeated Navelim Sporting 4-2 via tie-breaker in the final to clinch the 24th Cortalim Villagers Cup football tournament, organised by Cortalim Villagers Sports & Social Welfare Association at Cortalim Church ground.
The teams failed to score in regulation time. In the tie-breaker, CJD Ribandar scored through Krish Nanath Shirodkar, Salv Santos, Devendra Murgaokar and Octavio Miranda while only Aulon Gomes and Mobin Gomes converted for Navelim Sporting.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 and the winner's trophy while runners-up had to be content with Rs 30000 and a trophy. Individual prizes: Best forward - Clinton Niasso of Navelim Sporting, Best half - Salva Santos of CDJ ribandar, Best player of the final - Dario Rodrigues of CDJ Ribandar.
Roquezinho D'Souza, a social worker and former panch of Velsao was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Jose Maria Furtado, Deputy Sarpanch of Cansaulim and Dilip B N Bandodkar, Ex. Asst. Engineer, WR Dept and others dignitaries and club officials. Earlier, President Antonio Vas welcomed and also introduced the players to the guests.
