Chowgule, Salgaocar register big wins on the way to semi-finals

BSNL were made to work hard second day running for a win, while Chowgule CC, Salgaocar CC and Dempo CC registered thumping wins on the third day of the 3rd Late Babu Naik All India Cricket Tournament.
All the four teams have advanced to the semi-finals to be played on December 30. In the last four stage, Chowgule will play Dempo at Fatorda, while Salgaocar face BSNL at Sanguem.
While BSNL defeated Geno SC by three wickets at Agonda, Chowgule CC crushed Deniel CC (Hyderabad) by 349 runs at Sanguem. Salgaocar CC whipped Nashik CA by 176 runs at Chicalim and Dempo CC trounced DTDC by eight wickets at Fatorda.
In a hard-fought match, BSNL overcame Geno SC in Agonda. Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Geno were all out on 247 in 38.5 overs with Achit Shigwan (73), Amit Yadav (55), Harshad Gadekar (25) and Snehal Kavthankar 26 batting well for Geno. NS Negi with 4-34 was the pick of the bowlers while Kuldeep Diwan 2-60, Noel Rana 1-37, Joginder Singh 1-12, Kamlesh Makhwana 1-59 also did well.
In reply, BSNL chased down 250/7 in 40 overs with Anshul Kapoor top-scoring with 74 (68b). Amit Patil 62* (49b) and NS Negi 30 (25b) also batted well. For Geno, Amit Yadav 2-32, Lakshay Garg 2-46 did commendably well with the ball, while Harshad Gadekar, Mahesh Patil and Dhiraj Yadav picked up a wicket each. NS Negi was named the Man of the Match.
At Fatorda, Dempo CC made short work of DTDC with a comprehensive eight-wicket win. Electing to bat on winning the toss, DTDC were skittled out for 124 in 34.5 overs courtesy a disciplined Dempo attack. Sumeet Sharma (49) and Yogesh Pujari (47*) were the only run getters for DTDC. In the Dempo attack, Darshan Misal (3-39) was the pick of the bowlers with Akshay Garekar (2-17) and Subodh Bhatti (2-13) providing able support.
In reply, Dempo scored the winning runs in 9.5 overs losing two wickets in the process with Goa captain Sagun Kamat returning to run-scoring ways with a quick-fire 71. Kashyap Bakhale continued his good run with a 44 in a rollicking 116-run first-wicket stand. Vishwadeep and Sumit took a wicket each for DTDC. Sagun Kamat was later declared as the Man of the Match.
At Sanguem ground, runs came thick and fast from the moment a young Deniel CC put in Chowgule CC to bat. Chowgules posted a mammoth target of 390 runs for the loss of seven wickets and 12 runs penalty to the score for slow over rate. Samar Dubashi top-scored with 91, with Srinivas Fadte (70) and Ishan Gadekar (63) also feasting on some pedestrian bowling by the visiting Hyderabad side. Balraj Akkenappally (3-45) and Raju Pathlot (2-38) were the only bowlers to fare decently for Deniel.
In reply, a devastating spell by Felix Alemao (7-22), with Amulya Pandrekar (1-11) and Vijesh Prabhudessai (1-9) for support, had Deniel capitulate for 42 runs in 15 overs. Felix Alemao (7-22) was adjudged as the Man of the Match.
Meanwhile, at Chicalim, after a no result Wednesday owing to an unplayable pitch, Salgaocar CC demolished Nashik CA for a massive win. Winning the toss and batting first, Amogh Desai (135 of 87 balls) hammered the Nashik bowling with Swapnil Asnodkar (87) and Swapnil Salvi (32) also doing well to post a massive total of 354/7 in 40 overs. Akshay Ghorpade (2-37), Yogesh Yadav (1-50) and Jayesh Pawar (1-64) bowled well for Nashik.
In reply Nashik CA were all out for 178 runs in the 35th over. Ganesh Jadhav (78) offered good resistance while Yogesh Yadav (24) also frustrated Salgaocar for some time. For Salgaocar, Balkrsihna Shirke picked up 4-33 with Prajwal Gund 2-47 and Azim Kazi 2-11 proving good support bowlers. Centurion Amogh Desai was later awarded the Man of the Match for his swashbuckling
century.
