CRC Chinchinim edged past San Jose de Areal 3-2 to enter the semifinals of the second Anil Kamat Memorial Trophy at Enfermos Sports Complex, Navelim, in the inaugural match played under floodlights. San Jose de Areal took the lead through Azilton Viegas in the 21st minute and went into half-time ahead. CRC Chinchinim equalised through Franky Oliverio in the 36th minute. Chadel Fernandes then put CRC ahead in the 55th minute before adding another four minutes later to make it 3-1. Viegas reduced the deficit by completing his brace in the 59th minute, but CRC held on to secure victory. Fernandes was named the Player of the Match, with the award presented by Somnath Kamat.
USC Seraulim enter Mount Carmel quarters
MARGAO: United Sports Club Seraulim defeated Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda 3-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the Mount Carmel Trophy, organised by Mount Carmel Chapel, Telaulim, in association with United Club of Telaulim, at the Government Primary School ground, Telaulim, on Tuesday. Oliveira D’Souza put Seraulim ahead in the 15th minute. Paroda had an opportunity to equalise when Livon Clement shot over the crossbar, but Seraulim went into the break with a 1-0 lead. Paroda stepped up the attack after the break but failed to find an equaliser. Porsan Mondal doubled Seraulim’s lead in the 38th minute before D’Souza completed his brace in the 48th minute to make it 3-0. D’Souza was named Player of the Match, with the award presented by footballer Enoch Pires.
SFAL People’s win M3 Division futsal title
PANAJI: SFAL People’s won the M3 Division Futsal Competition organised by KSS Special School, Bicholim. SFAL People’s displayed teamwork and determination throughout the competition to clinch the championship title. Sonal Naik was awarded the Highest Scorer Trophy, while Rajdutta Bhagat received the Best Goalkeeper Trophy. The team was guided by physical education teacher Rupesh Gadekar, with the support of in-charge Clare Godinho and Dr Joslyn Dias Sapeco, PT.
Mathew wins two gold at swimming meet
PANAJI: Prof (Dr) Rajan Mathew of Government College of Quepem won two gold medals in the 45-plus category at the Goa State Civil Service Swimming Championship held at Campal, Panaji, on October 1. Representing the Directorate of Higher Education team, Mathew won gold in the 50-metre breaststroke and 50-metre backstroke events.
