MARGAO: Cuncolim Union stormed into the final of the 16th Davorlim Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over Betalbatim Sporting Club in the second semifinal, played at the Panchayat ground in Davorlim on Friday. The tournament is organised by Sporting Club Davorlim.
The match began at a lively pace, with both teams looking to seize an early advantage. Betalbatim came close to opening the scoring when Branson Fernandes struck the crossbar, but Cuncolim Union soon took control of proceedings. Fondu Velip netted twice in the 14th and 27th minutes to give his side a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, Betalbatim created several scoring opportunities, but their forwards — Oliveira D’Souza, Riyam Asampur and substitute Gladson Braganza — failed to convert.
Cuncolim Union put the result beyond doubt in the 52nd minute when Daulat Dessai headed home to make it 3-0 and seal their place in the final.
Cuncolim Union will now face Navelim Sporting Club in the final on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.
Riyam Asampur of Betalbatim Sporting Club was named Player of the Match, with the award presented by social worker Siddesh Baghat.
