MARGAO: Cuncolim Union edged past St Rock's Youth Club, Calata-Majorda 4-3 to cruise into the quarter-finals of Velim Panchayat Cup inter village football tournament organised by Sports and Welfare Club of Zaino at Church Ground, Velim on Tuesday. The highlight of the match were brilliant doubles by Micky Fernandes and Cliffton Ferandes. St Rock's striker Samson Braganza put his team in front but their joy was short-lived as in the 28th minute, Cliffton Fernandes put Cuncolim Union on equal terms. Crossing over, Josly Dias regained the lead for the Majorda team in the 37th minute. Spurred by the lead, Majorda team intensfied their attacks and in the 50th minute, Ovon Dias inflated the tally. Stunned by the double blow, Cuncolim Union upped the ante and defensive midfielder Micky Fernandes reduced the deficit. In the 60th minute, Micky Fernandes cancelled the lead for Cuncolim Union. Two minutes later, Cliffton Fernandes sealed the rivals’ fate to seal the tie.
