Cuncolim Union rallied from behind to defeat St Rock's Youth Club, Calata-Majorda 2-1 to sail into the quarter-finals of All Goa 4th Shooting Stars Cup inter village football tournament organized by Margao Sports Club in association with Shooting Stars Sports Club, Colleavaddo-Assolna at Ambelim ground, on Sunday. Cuncolim Union were trailing 0-1 at half time.
St Rock's Youth Club started the game on an aggressive note with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence under tremendous pressure. Persistent forays resulted in the first goal in the ninth minute when striker Mathew Colaco slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Stung by that setback, Cuncolim Union regrouped quickly but rival defenders did well in protecting the slender lead. At the other end, the Majorda team had a couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in one-to-one situations.
Crossing over, Cuncolim Union put up a better display and launched a flurry of attacks and in the 50th minute Deepak Velip bulged the net, giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper. The equalizer boosted the morale of Cuncolim Union players as they mounted tremendous pressure on the rival defence and five minutes later, Daulat Dessai struck the match winner.
Stunned by the lead, St Rock's Youth Club went on the attack but failed to get past the rivals' alert defence.
