Bottom-placed Curtorim Gymkhana escaped to their first draw as they held Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 1-1 in a GFA Pro League match at Government School Play ground, Cuncolim on Tuesday. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at half time .

Cavelossim should have sealed the match and raced to a big win but their strikers were inaccurate and fluffed at least three good chances the moment they had equalised. That apart, Cavelossim were so unlucky that three of their strikers’ attempts hit the cross bar, much to the dismay of their supporters.
Cavelossim striker Melvin Fernandes had the best chance when he was positioned in a one-to-one situation with only rival goalkeeper Joseph Rodrigues to beat.
The last named shot wide much to the disbelief of Cavelossim supporter to curse himself for missing a sitter. Cavelossim could have taken the lead in the 20th minute but Alex D’Souza’s feeble push went straight into the safe hands of Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper after Savio Fernandes laid him on the platter .Midway in the opening session, Cavelossim almost broke the deadlock but captaian Mario Mascarenhas’ snap shot hit the cross bar much to the dismay of Cavelossim supporters.
Curtorim Gymkhana who were struggling throughout the league and were yet to register a point, leave alone a win, went into the lead in the 30th minute when striker Xavier Dias who received a through pass from Robinson Colaco from the right flank and the former deceived rival defender and unleashed a curling shot to beat the Cavelossim goalkeeper hands down. Having drawn first blood, the Curtorim outfit seemed all pumped up and looked like they would taste their first win of the league.
However, Cavelossim had other plans. Stung by that setback, Cavelossim were quick and were winning the ball on most instances as they mounted pressure on the Curtorim Gymkhana defence but poor finishing let them down badly.
Attacking midfielder Joshua Vaz tormented Curtorim Gymkhana, harrying the rival defence with his menacing sprints on the flanks which proved his quality.
Cavelossim launched a barrage of attacks in search of equaliser but Joshuah Vaz failed to beat rival goalkeeper in a one-to-one situation off a well measured cross from Marcus Fernandes. Cavelossim were unlucky when Joshua Vaz’s rasping left-footed drive hit the horizontal bar off a pass from Mario Mascarenhas.
Cavelossim’s equaliser came in the injury time when attacking midfielder Joshua Vaz fed striker Levino Fernandes who without wasting time flicked the ball into the net giving no chance to the Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper Joseph Rodrigues.
Despite that, Cavelossim looked better the side in the second half but could not convert several scoring chances that came their way as their forwards failed to beat the rival goalkeeper.
Cavelossim could have made it 2-1 but captain Mario Mascarenhas headed out with an open goal staring at him, off a cross from Rayman Fernandes.
Earlier, Joshua Vaz’s left footer hit the post and went out of play. With this draw Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim moved their tally of points to 24 from 17 matches while Curtorim Gymkhana collected their first point from as many outings and stood relegated to First Division League.
