Damodar Higher Secondary School, Gudi Paroda blanked Guardian Angel Higher Secondary School, Curchorem to win the Zone IV Higher Secondary football tournament at Sheldem Panchayat ground, Tilamol on Friday. Damodar HSS led 1-0 at half time.
In an evenly contested match, both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. However as the match progressed, Damodar HSS took control after Aliston Costa's smart header beat the rival goalkeeper for the lead. Stung by that setback, Guardian Angel HSS pressed hard for the equaliser but the rival defenders stood tall in protecting their slender lead.
Post resumption, both the teams showed attacking intent and Guardian Angel HSS pressed more men upfront but conceded another goal when Austin Coutinho beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish.
The winners will play Zone IV at the Inter zone tournament to be held at Fatorda.
Earlier the teams were introduced to Motilal Gaonkar, TSO. Tibusio Gomes, PE Teacher of St Alex Higher Secondary School, Curtorim and Minino Fernandes, Match Commissioner gave away the merit certificates to the winners and runners-up. John A Fernandes, APEO introduced the guests and later proposed a vote of thanks.
