Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda defeated Ambelim Sports Club 4-3 via penalties after the full time score line read 0-0 to win the Rising Cup 2018 inter-village football tournament organized by St Cruz Society of Poitomaddo in association of Rising Club of Sanvorcotto in an exciting final at Government School Play Ground, Cuncolim on Sunday. 

Don Bosco Oratory started the match on the ascendancy, creating a flurry of chances from the flanks. Attacking midfielder Cliff Baretto received a pass from Francis Andrade as the former’s shot was saved by rival defender Blasco Fernandes. 

At the other end, Ambelim Sports Club started to see more of the ball but lack of creativity in the forward 

line was not helping their cause. Ambelim Sports Club had a chance to draw first blood when striker Samson Fernandes was brought down by the rival defender. 

Samson Fernanxdes took the resultant free-kick but it kissed the post, much to the dismay of the Ambelim Sports Club supporters. 

 Crossing over, both teams suffered a jolt when Ambelim’s defender Blasco Fernandes fouled rival Don Bosco’s Velito D’Sousa. However, Velito retaliated and that prompted referee David Rebello to flash red cards to both the players. 

 In the ensuing tie-breaker, Roque Borges, Velito Miranda, Samson Miranda and Edgar Noronha scored for Don Bosco Oratory while Michael Silva, Samson Fernandes and Ralph Fernandes were on target for for Ambelim Sports Club. 

Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda were richer by Rs 60,000 and a glittering trophy while Ambelim Sports Club had to settle for Rs 40,000 and a trophy.

M Amarnath: The comeback legend of Indian cricket

Former India cricketer, who played a pivotal part in the iconic 1983 World Cup triumph, Mohinder Amaranth was at GCA Academy, Porvorim on Saturday for an interactive session with the Goa State senior team and U-19 players. ‘Jimmy,’ as he is affectionately known, calls Goa his home as for the last 10 years he is largely based in the State.
