MARGAO
Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda came from behind to defeat Chandor Club 2-1 and march into the quarterfinals of the All Goa Rising Cup inter village football tournament organised by Santa Cruz Club of Poitomado in association with Rising Club of Sanvorcotto at Government School ground, Cuncolim on Saturday.
Chandor Club held the upper hand in the initial period of the game with Sunny Fernandes putting his team ahead in the 17th minute off a pass from Kerry Vaz. Stung by the early blow, Don Bosco Oratory upped the ante and came up with a couple of attacking moves against the rival citadel only for their forwards to misfire from close range. At the other end, Chandor Club had scoring chances to increase their tally only for their forwards to squander from up close.
Post resumption, Don Bosco Oratory were a dominant lot with the introduction of former Salgoaocar midfielder Francis Andrade who enlivened the proceedings and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.
Their efforts bore fruition when Edgar Noronha capitalized on a rival defender’s folly and punted the ball to the far corner of the net off through pa ass from Edgar Noronha in the 38th minute. The equaliser boosted the morale of the Fatorda team as they mounted tremendous pressure on the rival citadel. Francis Andrade unleashed a left footed drive to beat the rival goalkeeper hands down to score
the winner.
