The fifth and final league round of the Goa Premier Division League, organised by the Goa Cricket Association, commenced on Friday. An exciting contest between bat and ball was witnessed on the opening day. A brilliant century by Yash Kasvankar of Salgaocar Cricket Club and a six-wicket haul by Shubham Tari of Chowgule Sports Club were the highlights of the day.
At the NAPEX ground, Sankhali, Salgaocar Cricket Club declared their first innings at 351 for 8. Captain Yash Kasvankar played a commanding knock of 121 runs off 155 balls, hitting 14 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by Shaantanu Nevagi (49) and Azaan Thota (44). Nihal Surlakar picked up 2 wickets for 26 runs for Geno Sports Club. In reply, Geno Sports Club were 11 without loss at stumps.
At Bandodkar ground, Panjim Gymkhana were bundled out for 143 runs. Soham Panvalkar top-scored with 51 runs. Mohit Yadav took 4 wickets for 46 runs for Dempo Club, while Abhinav Tejrana claimed 3 wickets. In reply, Dempo Club reached 137 for 3 at the end of the day, with captain Snehal Kauthankar unbeaten on 60 and Aditya Kota unbeaten on 42. Dempo now trails by just 6 runs.
At the GCA Academy ground in Porvorim, Shubham Tari of Chowgule Sports Club produced a brilliant bowling performance, taking 6 wickets for 38 runs to dismiss Margao Cricket Club for 101 runs in their first innings. Deepraj Gaonkar scored 24 for MCC. Chowgule Sports Club then scored 246 in their first innings. Gauresh Kambli (50), Shubham Desai (49), and Darshan Misal (46) made useful contributions. Rudresh Sharma took 4 wickets for 68 runs for MCC. Trailing by 145 runs, Margao Cricket Club were 5 without loss in their second innings at stumps and still trail by 140 runs.
