Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim succumbed to their second defeat of the GFA U-20 Taca Goa league on Monday as Dempo Sports Club rallied from behind to secure a 3-2 win for the second time at SAG Artifical Turf Ground, Fatorda. Dempo Sports Club were trailing 1-2 at half time.
Dempo Sports Club took the lead in the very 4th minute when striker Kapil Hoble connected in style off a well-executed free kick by Vineet Bugde beating the Cavelossim goalkeeper Jeet Gupta.
Stung by the reversal, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim drew level only a minute later off Vishal Fernandes after Samson Simoes laid him on a platter. Spurred by the equalizer, Cavelossim got into attacking mode and in the 9th minute Flyod Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper Flezbern D'Souza hands down off a through pass from Cliffton Barbosa.
The match seemed to be done and dusted at this point as Dempo Sports Club lacked the will to fight back. Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim forwards Sneeden Madeira and Vishal Fernandes were impressive in the attack and created a lot of movement inside the rival half.
Dempo had a chance to level the score but striker Kapil Hoble lost the control in front of Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim goal with only rival goalkeeper to beat off a pass from playmaker Arron Alvares.
With time running out for the lemon-break, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim nearly inflated the tally but Dempo goalkeeper Flezbern D'Souza collected the ball with great difficulty to deny Vishal Fernandes.
Crossing over, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim were the better side and had couple of scoring chances but their forwards muffed from close range.Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim citadel almost fell but Clinton Barbosa effected a goalline save after his goalkeeper was beaten by Vineet Bugde's rasping shot and in the goalmouth meele, playmaker Arron Alvares gently pushed the ball in, much to the delight of the Dempo bench to put his team on equal terms in the 69th minute.
Buoyed by the equaliser, Dempo upped the ante and pressed for the match-winner and in the 84th minute,Vineet Bugde punted the ball to the far corner of the net off Arron Alvares' pass to collect three full points. Stung by that goal, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim went all out but failed to get past the rival rearguard.
With this win, Dempo collected 7 points from 3 matches while Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim have 1 point from the same number of encounters.
