Dempo Sports Club scored a comfortable 2-0 victory over Churchill Brothers-GFDC in their final group game to cement the top position and qualify for the final phase of the AIFF U-13 Youth League.
Dempo coach Remus Gomes started with the same eleven that scored eight goals against Sporting Clube de Goa in their previous match. Dempo controlled possession right from the start and Churchill-GFDC found it difficult to keep up with Dempo’s possession styled play.
The Blues had several chances to score but took 35 minutes to open their account when Dwayne Neto’s brilliant through ball found Shreyash Naik who slid the ball past the Churchill-GFDC keeper Jay Sharma. Dempo went into the lemon break with a solitary goal lead.
Five minutes into the second half, Dempo had a brilliant chance to double their lead but Shreyash Naik missed the target in a one-on-one situation. Dwayne Neto and Shreyash Naik combined again for Dempo’s second goal in the 55th minute- this time, Shreyash had the simplest of tap ins after another brilliant run from Neto.
Dempo finished the zonal phase of the League with a perfect record, winning all their eight games scoring a whopping 38 goals and conceding just two goals.
