Don Bosco defeated Government College, Sanquelim, 3-1 in the final.

Don Bosco College, Panaji, won the men’s inter-collegiate badminton championship organised by the Goa University Sports Section at the SAG Indoor Sports Complex, Campal, recently. The tournament featured 47 colleges.
Don Bosco opened their campaign with a 3-0 win over PES RN College, Farmagudi, before overcoming St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, 3-2 in a closely contested semi-final. In the final, Don Bosco defeated Government College, Sanquelim, 3-1 to clinch the championship.
Abhishek Swami was named the best player of the tournament in the men’s section for his performances throughout the competition.
Basketball selection trials on August 24
PANAJI: The Goa Basketball Association (GBA) will conduct selection trials for the State youth and sub-junior basketball teams at Don Bosco Oratory (DBO), Panaji, on August 24. The youth trials will begin at 7 pm and will include players shortlisted following the State Youth Championships, along with other eligible players seeking selection to the Goa teams for the 41st Youth National Basketball Championships in Pune, Maharashtra, from October 27 to November 3. The shortlisted girls are Ace Morais, Amanda Desouza, Alya Shaikh, Aanora Gracias, Bianca Pereira, Bliss Castelino, Eneira Fernandes, Eva Mascarenhas, Itcha Nalawde, Keiya Fernandes, Kim D'Souza, Natalie Fernandes, Shulka Tari and Winoska D'Silva. The boys shortlisted are Aaron Pinto, Aaron Ponraj, Andre DeCosta, Arka Bose, Ashton, Darion Gracias, David Xavier, Jordan Fernandes, Nathaniel D'Cunha, Nolan Fernandes, Richie Pereira, Sean Fernandes, Shritij Kadri, Tanish Kattimanni, Valentino Alvares and Warren Rodrigues.
Players born on or after January 1, 2011 are eligible for the youth trials. Those attending must report in proper playing kit and carry self-attested photocopies of their Aadhaar card and birth certificate.
The sub-junior trials will be held at the same venue from 6.30 pm. Players born on or after January 1, 2013 are eligible to attend and must carry the same documents.
Shikha appointed head referee for JJAU regional championship
VASCO: Vasco’s Shikha Pathak has been appointed head referee for the fighting discipline at the 5th JJAU Regional Championship Southeast Asia, being held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, from August 20 to 23. An Asian technical official, Pathak will oversee referee education and evaluation at the championship, with responsibility for maintaining technical standards and contributing to referee development across Asia. She will conduct rulebook and technical seminars to familiarise referees with updated international standards, besides directing practical on-mat training sessions focusing on scoring accuracy, penalty enforcement and athlete safety. Pathak will also administer theory and practical examinations for participating officials and evaluate referees on the tatami. Based on their performance, she will recommend qualified candidates for official diploma upgrades.
Fernandes wins staff category in cross-country race at Pilar
PANAJI: Don Bosco College’s physical education instructor Prissie Fernandes secured first place in the women’s staff and St Andre constituency category at the State-level inter-collegiate cross-country race held at Fr Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar, on August 8.
The event, organised by the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Fr Agnel College, saw participation from around 26 colleges across Goa. It was sponsored by Peter Palha in memory of his late brother, Antonio Palha.
The race featured inter-college boys’ and girls’ categories, besides the staff category and the St Andre constituency residents’ categories for men and women. Don Bosco College was represented by six boys and two girls, with all eight participants completing the race and putting up a commendable performance.
