Themain story of ‘Apleam Bhurgeam Sangatak’ revolves round a middle aged couple(Felcy and Justin) who have no children for ten long years of their marriage. Whenthey are later blessed with twin sons their joy knows no bounds. They bringthem up with good moral values and teachings. Their sons (Godwin and Mathew)grow up into two young men and get married to girls of their choice (Roma andRosalia), who are incidentally both sisters and daughters of a rich expatriateGoan settled in Africa.
Being the only daughters of a rich father the two young daughters-in-law are inthe habit of splurging money on luxuries and living life to the fullest withwanton abandon. They are used to life in the fast lane, which also includesgambling at Casinos. This is something that the simple old couple did notexpect and are shocked beyond belief. The two sons do not have much say in thematter.
The story moves on from one situation to another wherein there is growingdiscord and indifference emerging amongst the once close-knit family. The twosons, influenced by their wives, begin to distance themselves from their oldparents. It comes to such a point that the parents are sent to an old age home untila good samaritan comes to their rescue and helps them restore their honour anddignity. But the old couple is made of stern stuff and are not the type to giveup.
The show highlights and teaches a strong lesson in the degrading moral valuesin our apparently civil society. It tells very emphatically how to love andrespect parents as well the responsibilities towards them in their old age. Thewriter highlights the Senior Citizens Act 2007 enacted by the State tohighlight children’s obligations towards their parents. The dialogue in thetiatr, which is meaningful, brings home the point clearly and distinctly onseveral issues concerning family morals and responsibilities.
The humour evoked by John D’Silva, Sally and Seby is lively and there never isa dull moment. The music department is well balanced; the stage sets are extremelyappealing, with one particular scene depicted showing Christmas night is likethe icing on the cake. Fadista Sonia Shirsat debuts in this tiatr and addsglamour to the show with her captivating voice. Do not miss this show.
