Goa Football Association on Saturday at a specially convened executive committee meeting formed a committee to organize the Junior National Football Tournament for Girls 2018-19 headed by President Elvis Gomes.
In all, 25 teams from various states of India will be vying for the championship, which will be held from Aug 20 to Aug 31 in Duler and the artificial turf in Margao. The Goa squad is undergoing intensive coaching under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Remy Colaco assisted by Savio Vaz.
“The last national championship organized by us was successfully conducted. This time with the Women’s League behind us, we have spotted some good players and hope that they will make it to the finals with the support of the home crowd,” Elvis Gomes said.
The other members of the committee are Schubert Furtado, Lavinio Rebello (organizing vice-chairmans), Welvin Menezes (organizing secretary),Angelo Albuquerque, Sanjiv Nagvenkar, Juliana Gurjao e Colaco, Benedicto Themudo, Prakash Naik, Dominic Pereira, Gaja Kerkar, Patrick D’Souza, Raju Banavalikar, Santosh Bandodkar, Francis Viegas, Jaju Fernandes, Anthony Pango, Arnaldo Costa, John Silva, Francis D’Souza, and Anthony Leo Fernandes.
Meanwhile, the executive committee has decided to have a ceremony to launch the Women’s League on Aug 9 in Panaji.
The league shall commence from Aug 14. The charity match between Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo Sports Club which is a precursor to the Goa Professional League shall be held on Setp 2 in Duler under floodlights.
The Goa Professional League is scheduled to commence from September 17. The Committee also decided to publicly display the Bandodkar Gold Trophy at the Charity Match in Duler.
Setting the process of elections in motion, the GFA on Saturday sought the consent of the returning officer who shall be entrusted with the conduct of the general elections to the executive committee under the amended constitution of GFA.
