Allaying any apprehensions about meeting the deadlines ahead of the organisation of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the State next year, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar expressed confidence about completion of the ongoing renovation works at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda by July end.
Addressing media-persons during a visit to the stadium on Sunday to take stock of the works, Parsekar said that the contractors had assured him about speeding up the works by deploying more men so as to meet the deadline.
Parsekar's trip to Nehru stadium came despite his hectic schedule and the CM said that he will pay another surprise visit to the venue to monitor the progress soon. The works had started in April-May to make the stadium FIFA compliant for hosting the prestigious event next year.
With this singular aim in mind, all the working teams connected with the prestigious international event are working to showcase the civil works, keeping in mind stringent FIFA standards. Pegged at an estimated Rs 8 crores, the civil works include two players' dressing rooms, referees' room, medical room, youth development room, and up-gradation of floodlights tower and a media tribune, elaborated Jayant Chimulkar, SAG Chief Engineer.
Chimulkar said that Rs 5 crores will be invested for the civil works. The flood lux towers will be increased from the present 1500 to 2000, while the flood towers which previously had 1500 lux will be increased to 2200 lux at a cost of Rs 3 crores, he informed.
The VVIP Enclosure will have an additional 250 seats and the total seating capacity of the stadium will be 19,000. He said that the works will be completed by July end. Govind Jaiswal, Executive Director, SAG, was also present during the CM's visit.
