FC Goa rope in Simoes

The 34-year-old will lead the frontline for the Goan outfit alongside former PSG striker Reinaldo

FC Goa coach Zico has bolstered his side’s attack for the second edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) by adding two Brazilians who played for his former side Flamengo.

After having already completed the signing of 36-year-old Reinaldo, who plied his trade for PSG, Flamengo, Botafogo and Al-Ittihad amongst others, FC Goa have roped in Victor Simoes.

The 34-year old striker has also played for the likes of Flamengo and Botafogo and also plied his trade in Asia with Jeonnam Dragons (Korea), Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia) and Salal (Qatar).

He had a successful spell at Al Ahli where he scored 43 goals in 58 matches for the Saudi club and also finished as the joint top-scorer in the league in 2011-12 season. With Salal, he scored five goals in eight appearances for the Qatari club.

“We’re proud to announce the signing of our new international player, Victor Simões to the FC Goa squad!” the club announced on their Facebook page on Friday evening.

Fitness test for GFA refs

PANAJI: Goa Football Association (GFA) will be conducting the first physical fitness test for referees on June28 at the Bambolim athletic stadium.All referees are requested to report at 06.30 am.Attendance is compulsorily says a GFA press release. Failure to attend would mean that referees would be considered inactive, and would not be allowed to officiate in any of the GFA approved competitions, adds the press release.
