FC Siolim enter Gouveia Memorial quarters

FC Siolim edged past Wilred Leisure Curtorim 2-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the Late Franco Gouveia Memorial football tournament organised by St Anthony Sports Club Colva at the DSYA ground, Colva, on Thursday. Wilred Leisure Curtorim took the lead in the 13th minute through Anslem Fernandes. Milagres Fernandes missed a chance to double the advantage in the 24th minute, while Siolim’s Sandeep Pomburpekar saw his attempt saved by the Curtorim goalkeeper. Yash Simepurushkar restored parity for Siolim before halftime as the teams went into the break tied 1-1.
After the change of ends, Wilred Leisure failed to convert several opportunities while Siolim capitalised through Sandeep Pomburpekar, who scored the winner in the 45th minute. Nilesh Panchwadkar presented the man of the match award to Sandeep Pomburpekar.

Mandopa storm into Assumpta Cup semis
MARGAO: Mandopa Sporting Club came from behind to defeat Sarzora Sports Club 3-1 and advance to the semifinals of the Assumpta Cup 2026 at the Sarzora football ground. Sarzora SC made a strong start with Nigel Fernandes scoring in the 13th minute to hand his side the lead. Both teams created chances in an entertaining first half, but Sarzora held on to the 1-0 advantage at the break.
Mandopa Sporting dominated the second half and struck three times to complete the comeback and secure a 3-1 victory. Both sides continued to create chances until the final whistle. Sunny Fernandes of Mandopa Sporting Club was adjudged man of the match. The award was presented by Valente Gracias, Art and Cultural Secretary of Sarzora.

Kenisha third in Mandovi crossing event
MARGAO: Kenisha D’Costa from Macasana secured third place in the River Mandovi Crossing competition organised by Amigos De Clark. Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao congratulated the swimmer on her achievement. He said he had proposed the development of an indoor stadium with a swimming pool in the Cuncolim constituency to encourage children to take up swimming. “Kudos to Kenisha on her achievement, and my best wishes for her success in future competitions,” Alemao said.
