Football Club Siolim downed Assnora United 3-2 to cruise into the quarter-final of McDowell's N0 Yaari Cup inter village football tournament organized by Agasaim Youth Club at Agasaim Grounds, on Friday. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at full time.
It was a game of two halves as Siolim looked better in the first half and scored in the 15th minute when striker Ramnath Dabolkar slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Desperate to pull things back after the initial setback Assnora went all out in the attacks and neutralized the lead in the 20th minute when Rajesh Salgaocar's free-kick was beautifully connected in style with a thumping header from Tushar Dessai.
Crossing over, Siolim adopted an aggressive approach and made inroads inside the rival territory but their forwards misfired from close range. Assnora United 's striker Rajesh Salgaocar missed the easiest chance when he failed to convert from hand shaking distance in the 38th minute. After brief lull, Siolim went into attacking mode and fired sorties against the rival citadel. Rajesh Pompurkar's well executed free kick eluded the rival goalkeeper to give his team a 2-1 cushion. Spurred by the lead, Siolim swarmed all over the rival territory and in the 49th minute, Ramnath put the issue beyond doubt when he punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. With time running out , Prajot Arebekar reduced the margin late in the second half.
