A hat-trick by striker Sanket Jotkar helped new-entrants St Savio Sports Club, Calangute, edge past United Club of Telaulim 3-2 in Geno GFA First Division League at Artificial Turf ground, Fatorda on Wednesday.
St Savio Sports Club started the game on positive note and forged ahead in the 18th minute when striker Sanket Jotkar slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Stunned by the setback, United Club of Telaulim went into the attacking mode and neutralised the lead when Mabel Miranda punished the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish. Unfazed, St Savio Sports Club continued to call the shots, however, their forwards muffed up sitters from close range. At the other end, United Club of Telaulim had some scoring chances but their forwards failed to beat the rival goalkeeper in one to one situation.
Post-resumption, St Savio Sports Club were well organised in every department and dominated the proceedings. Sanket Jotkar who was in the thick of the action, helped his side regain the lead in the 59th minute when he found the far corner of the net.
Boosted by the lead, St Savio Sports Club further upped the ante and in the 67th minute, Sanket Jotkar completed his hat-trick when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a rasping shot. Down by 1-3 margin, United Club of Telaulim made a last-ditch effort and reduced the margin in the injury time when Andrew Colaco flicked the ball into the goal.
Meanwhile at Sirsaim ground, Sesa FA registered a comfortable 4-1 win over Curtorim Gymkhana. Rovon Pereira’s strike opened the scoring in the 33rd minute and the goal separated the teams at half time. In the second half, Sesa FA came out strong and netted another in the 46th minute through Kunal Salgaocar and he went on to complete his hat-trick with fine set-pieces in the 85th and 90+4th minutes. Curtorim managed to pull one goal back in the 90th minute through Nelson Fernandes.
