FM Nitish Belurkar (2310) created history by winning first-ever medal for Goa at National Junior Chess Championship.

In the national juniors held in Delhi, Nitish -- a Geno brand Ambassador -- was tied on 8 points with first-placed GM Karthik in the penultimate round. He created chances in the final round clash with FM Suyogh Wagh of Maharastra (2240) but eventually settled for a draw to end on 8.5 points, which earned him a bronze medal for his third-place finish. Nitish will now represent the Indian team at both Asian Juniors as well as World Junior Chess Championship next year. Nitish gained 35 rating points in the tournament. Nitish continued his good form after he emerged as the top Goan player at the 1st Goa Grandmaster tournament. He plays National Seniors next at Jammu from December 8.

Geno brand ambassadors, FM Ameya Audi (2347) and Ritviz Parab (2309), also performed well to score 8 points and 7.5 points respectively. Ameya defeated AGM Ratneesh R (2017) of TN to be placed 12th while Ritviz lost to CM Aronyak Ghosh (2343) to finish in 17th place. Another Goan player, Devesh Naik (1662) won his last round to score 5.5 points. Devesh gains 67 rating points.
