The Goa Cricket Association has alleged that one stringer of vernacular daily fabricated the news of match opening, saying it was inaugural of the ground which created tension between them and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldesai. They, however, said it was not mistake of MLA, but of

the reporter.

Dr Venkatesh Prabhudesai, senior vice president of GCA, on Monday addressed a news conference in the city and clarified the incident. GCA member Anant Naik, Sayyed Abdul Mazid, Manohar Naik and Dr Ketan Bhatikar were present on the occasion.

It may be recalled that there was tension between GCA members and MLA on January 2, at Sanguem cricket ground over the issue of inauguration of ground.

GCA members have clarified that it was not inauguration of the ground, but opening of cricket match. “When MLA Phaldesai came there he lamented saying his office was not informed of inauguration. But we clarified that it was not inauguration but was opening of a match and then he was pacified,” Prabhudesai told the media.

According to him, members of Sarvodaya Club along with Vilas Desai used bullying tone and manhandled them in front of MLA. “He (MLA) then asked why the locals were sacked from the daily wages works. Some locals are not interested in such type of works and had told that they

can’t do those works,” Prabhudesai clarified.

Sayyed Abdul Mazid alleged that one Vinay Gaonkar, who is secretary of Sarvodaya Club and also a reporter, fabricated the pre-event information and passed it to MLA, which was actually wrong information being passed on. “At least journalists should not do such acts, which creates confusions. We were manhandled by the members of Sarvodaya Club. We have complained about

this to our seniors, who have sent them notice," said Mazid. He also alleged that some of the members of Sarvodaya club were demanding to co-opt Vilas Desai in GCA committee. “They demanded to co-opt Desai while they charged on us,” Mazid added.
