Defending champions Goa Medical College, Bambolim, successfully retained their crown at the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Chess (Mixed) Championship 2025“26, held at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Goa University Campus, Taleigao, recently.
Displaying strong teamwork and strategic brilliance, Goa Medical College outplayed the competition to lift the prestigious trophy. Post-graduation Department, Goa University secured the runner-up position, while Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna, claimed third place.
The title of Best Player of the Tournament was awarded to Soham Naik of Goa Medical College for his exceptional individual performance. The championship saw participation from 45 teams across colleges in Goa, making it a vibrant and competitive two-day event.
The closing ceremony was graced by Kunal Naik, Assistant Registrar (Medical and Allied), Goa University, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Satyavan Harmalkar, College Director of Physical Education & Sports, Narayan Zantye College, Bicholim, and Dattaram Pinge, FIDE Arbitrator, were the Guests of Honour. Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, also joined the dignitaries in presenting trophies and medals to the winners.
